Behind Level 1: How my weight loss journey truly began

Facing Obesity at 189kg

Back in 2017, I weighed 189kg (416 lbs) and was trapped in a cycle of quick fixes. I tried every “solution” I thought might work: strict diets, heavy workout routines, and cutting out everything at once.

Like many people starting a weight loss journey, I wanted fast results. I began working out 4–5 times per week and eating nothing but rice, dry chicken, and steamed vegetables. It didn’t last.

It felt like trying to learn to juggle by throwing 10 balls in the air at once, every attempt ended in failure and frustration. Inevitably, I fell back into the lifestyle I knew: fast food, sugar, late nights gaming, and chasing quick dopamine hits.

Breaking the Cycle of Quick Fixes

At that time, I wasn’t just overweight, I was addicted to sugar, fast food, video games, and other instant-gratification habits. The healthy lifestyle I wanted didn’t give me the same rush. And so I kept failing.

But one day, I decided to change my approach. Instead of searching for shortcuts, I accepted that real weight loss would take time and patience.

Step 1: Start with Walking

The first breakthrough came when I gave myself permission to start small.

  • I stopped obsessing over calories.

  • I didn’t follow a strict diet.

  • I didn’t force myself into exhausting workouts.

Instead, I made Level 1 about just walking.
No matter what else I ate or did, I committed to getting my steps in every day. That was my only rule.

And that simple shift, starting with walking, nothing else, became the foundation of my 90kg (200 lbs) weight loss journey.

Key Takeaway from Level 1

If you’re overwhelmed by diets, workouts, and lifestyle changes, don’t juggle 10 balls at once. Start with one small step you can stick to.

For me, it was walking. For you, it might be something else. But the secret to lasting change is:

  • Start small

  • Stay consistent

  • Build from there

Q: How do I start losing weight if I’m very overweight?
A: Start small. My Level 1 was simply walking daily without worrying about diet or workouts. That one step helped me begin losing 90kg.
